A useful fit for

A Bosch 18V owner who wants a barrel grip, dial-set 500–3,500 SPM speed range, documented 45-degree beveling and a package-listed dust hood/outlet.

The main tradeoff

Battery, charger and case are separate; Bosch’s included-items list does not name a blade. The extraction hose is not included, and the hood must be removed for bevel cuts.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the GST18V-50BN include a battery, charger, case or blade?

Bosch’s exact GST18V-50BN page marks the battery/charger and case as not included; its exact Includes list names the saw, anti-splinter insert, non-marring overshoe, dust hood and extraction outlet, but no blade. The shared GST18V-50/50B manual’s generic Standard equipment list does name a Bosch T-shank blade, so the exact bare-tool retail-box blade contents are unresolved. Verify the seller’s exact package rather than inferring from a photo.

Can the GST18V-50BN accept U-shank blades?

No. Bosch’s shared GST18V-50 / GST18V-50B manual says this tool-free clamp accepts T-shank blades and does not accept U-shank blades. It also says the back of the installed blade must sit in the guide-roller groove.

Can the 50BN bevel with the vacuum hood attached?

Not in the same documented setup. The footplate tilts up to 45 degrees, but Bosch instructs users to remove the hood for miter/bevel cuts and to turn off the blower when dust collection is connected. Treat vacuum and bevel as separate arrangements.

The Bosch GST18V-50BN is a brushless 18V barrel-grip jig saw sold without a battery, charger or case. Bosch describes it as a 500–3,500 SPM tool with a one-inch stroke, four orbital positions and a 45-degree footplate range. Its defining buying detail is the combination of barrel-grip controls and a comparatively straightforward dust setup: the exact package page lists a dust hood and extraction outlet, while its manual describes how to connect a hose. This assessment is derived from Bosch's model page and instructions, not from use or test cuts.

Know which 50-series saw the suffix names

GST18V-50BN is the retail bare-tool code, while Bosch calls the underlying barrel-grip saw GST18V-50B and identifies part number 3601EB2010. The shared manual covers both that machine and top-handle GST18V-50. On the 50B, Bosch specifies a slide-style on/off switch with a separate speed dial; the top-handle sibling uses a trigger and switch lock. The page gives the barrel-grip tool a 500–3,500 SPM range, which is different from the top-handle 50N page's 0–3,500 range. Do not let a listing that shortens the model to “GST18V-50” blur the handle or switch choice.

The saw uses T-shank blades only: the manual explicitly says it does not accept U-shank blades. Bosch's exact package list names the saw, anti-splinter insert, non-marring overshoe, dust hood and extraction outlet. It does not name a saw blade, battery, charger or case. The shared 50/50B manual’s generic “Standard equipment” list does name a Bosch T-shank blade, but that does not resolve the exact GST18V-50BN retail-box list. Treat blade inclusion as uncertain and verify the seller’s exact package rather than assuming presence or absence from a photo. Bosch's manual also says the anti-splinter insert only works with certain ground-sided blades.

Orbit is a material choice, not a finish guarantee

The selector's position 0 is for hard materials such as metal or thin sheet, 1 for softer material when cleaner cuts or delicate scrolling matter, 2 for medium-density materials such as harder woods or particleboard, and 3 for soft materials such as wood and plastic when speed matters more than a clean edge. Bosch calls this chart a guideline and recommends test cuts in scrap. The product page lists four settings, and the 2023 manual explains them by material; neither one is a promise that a particular speed, blade and stock combination will produce a specific edge.

Set the variable-speed dial to the blade and job rather than treating the top of its range as a default. The saw also has a switchable cutline blower. Bosch says to use the blower on wood, plastic or similar material that generates sawdust, and switch it off for metals, cooling agents or when a dust-collection system is connected. For metal, the manual calls for coolant or lubricant alongside the cut line. Use appropriate work support, keep the blade's rated speed in view and avoid pushing the saw to make it cut faster.

Vacuum and bevel are different arrangements

Unlike a bare-tool listing that leaves the dust hardware uncertain, the GST18V-50BN page expressly includes a hood and extraction outlet. The manual says a hose is not included, instructs the user to switch off the blower when dust extraction is connected and says to remove the hood for blade installation/removal and for miter or bevel cuts. Bosch's separate JA1010 guide is listed as compatible, but that guide is not part of the included box list.

The footplate may be tilted up to 45 degrees in either direction. Bosch describes detents at 45 degrees and marks at 15 and 30 degrees; the anti-splinter insert must be removed before adjusting it. That documented bevel option should not be conflated with the vacuum arrangement: while the hood is installed for extraction, the manual says to remove it before bevel cuts. A user who needs both functions should plan separate setups, not expect one attached accessory arrangement to provide both at once.

How it differs from newer connected saws

The 50BN is not one of the connected 60-series models. It has no product-page claim of an app interface, adaptive entry speed or blade-guide adjustment channel. Its slower minimum preset begins at 500 SPM, while the GST18V-60BCN begins at 800 SPM and adds connected features; the 60-series pages also report a higher wood capacity. Conversely, the 50BN has an explicit 45-degree bevel specification and its exact package lists the hood/outlet, whereas the 60-series bevel data is unclear and the GST18V-60CN package page omits those dust pieces. These are documented tradeoffs, not a ranking of cut quality or durability.

This model may fit a Bosch 18V owner who prefers a barrel grip, wants variable-speed and orbital controls, and has a practical route to bevel cuts or vacuum extraction. Bosch says to use only Bosch or AMPShare 18V batteries and chargers from the supported list; “bare tool” still means the battery and charger are separate purchases. Before ordering, verify the full 50BN suffix, confirm whether a blade is included in the seller's package, check the precise 18V battery and charger, and ensure the hose connection suits the included outlet. Bosch's product listing is not evidence of current retail stock or price.

Sources and limits

This review relies on Bosch's exact GST18V-50BN page, its linked GST18V-50 / GST18V-50B manual, the Bosch/AMPShare battery and charger list and the JA1010 compatibility page. A bounded exact-name CPSC query returned an empty array on 2026-10-28; that result does not guarantee future recall status. No purchase price, seller inventory, rating, test or ownership claim is made.
