Festool CARVEX PSB 420 EBQ Corded Top-Handle Jigsaw (576192) review

The 2021–2023 U.S. Festool catalog/dealer material identifies this corded 420 configuration; inspected 2026 catalog pages 120–127 show current cordless Carvex models/accessories rather than this EBQ tool. This is not an official discontinuation or seller-unavailability finding. Top/D-handle with variable-speed trigger and separate safety lock. Trigger range is 1,000–3,800 SPM when used; the wheel sets the maximum. The lock is not a documented trigger lock-on for continuous running.

A useful fit for

An earlier-reference corded top-handle 420 when its trigger-controlled speed range and D-handle switch arrangement suit the documented task.

The main tradeoff

The trigger speed range begins at 1,000 SPM, but the trigger is not documented as a continuous-operation lock; the separate switches govern that. Vacuum and optional bevel base are incompatible, and retailer wattage text conflicts with Festool primary sources.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the PSB 420 EBQ match a corded top handle T-shank softwood-orbital requirement?

Yes for that manual-described plan. Festool recommends pendulum settings 1–3 for softwood, and the PSB 420 EBQ is the top handle corded model. It is rated at 400 W and 120 V with a 1,000–3,800 SPM range. This is not a cut test or finish guarantee.

Can the PSB 420 EBQ use a vacuum and bevel at the same time?

No documented combined plan: Festool says external extraction is not possible with the optional WT-PS 420 angle table, which is required for ±45-degree beveling. Choose the extraction arrangement or the angle-table arrangement; verify the separate adapter, hose and angle base in the offered package.

Can the PSB 420 EBQ cut ceramic with orbital action?

No: the manual's material table specifies pendulum setting 0 for ceramic, so the supported ceramic arrangement is straight action. The 120 mm wood, 20 mm aluminum and 10 mm steel maxima do not specify ceramic depth.

The Festool CARVEX PSB 420 EBQ (U.S. catalog item 576192) is the earlier-reference corded D-handle version of the 420 family. Its documented variable-speed trigger and lock differ from the barrel-grip PS 420 EBQ; the 400 W, 120 V motor, 26 mm stroke and 120/20/10 mm material capacities are shared family specifications.

D-handle trigger changes how the speed range is reached

Festool's manual identifies PSB 420 EBQ as the D-handle configuration. The speed wheel sets a maximum, while the variable-speed trigger controls the running rate when used; the manual gives 1,000–3,800 SPM for that trigger arrangement. The separate safety lock is not a trigger lock-on for continuous running: the manual directs continuous operation through the on/off switch. It also says the “A” automatic setting is not available when the variable trigger is used. That is materially different from PS 420 EBQ's barrel-grip slide switches and 1,500 SPM lower endpoint.

Both corded 420 models are listed at 120 V and 400 W, with a 26 mm stroke and four pendulum positions. The older Festool U.S. catalog describes the motor as brushless. Those ratings are useful for identifying this model family, not as a stand-in for cut speed, torque under load or a real-world finish.

Use the material table without extending its limits

The manual gives blade-dependent maxima of 120 mm for wood, 20 mm for aluminum and 10 mm for steel. It names wood/wood-like material, plastic, steel or unhardened ferrous metal, non-ferrous metal and ceramic plate when an appropriate blade is fitted. It does not establish cast-iron cutting or ceramic thickness. Follow the blade instructions and support the work as the model manual directs.

The four-position selector uses 0 for straight and 1–3 for orbital action. Festool's table recommends positions 1–3 for softwood, 0–1 for hardwood and steel, 0–2 for aluminum/non-ferrous metals, 1–2 for plastic, and position 0 for ceramic. The speed chart has separate material-specific starting ranges, including 4–A for softwood/veneer plywood, 3–A for hardwood and hard plastic, 1–4 for soft plastics, 3–5 for aluminum/ceramic, and 1–4 for steel. These are manufacturer instructions, not a guarantee for a given stock thickness or edge.

Do not combine dust extraction with the angle table

To bevel +45°/−45°, Festool specifies the optional WT-PS 420 angle base, item 496134. Its manual explicitly says dust extraction cannot be used with that angle table. Choose the optional angle base for bevel cuts or the separate external-extraction arrangement for vacuum collection; the same plan cannot satisfy both. The extraction route uses the model's 27 mm adapter/port with a suitable hose and extractor, so verify exact adapter and hose fit and whether parts are present in the offered box. Neither the angle base nor a vacuum should be assumed included from a product photograph.

The Festool U.S. catalog/dealer materials list two T-shank wood blades, chip catcher, splinterguard, Plug-It cord, dust port and SYS3 M 137 Systainer for item 576192. Dealer guides identify 561608 as an earlier item associated with 576192. The page image comes from a retailer's exact 576192 listing; it establishes visual identity of the PSB D-handle body and case, not package contents.

Check exact model evidence, including a conflicting retailer spec

The official CARVEX manual and older U.S. catalog both specify 400 W, while the checked retailer 576192 specification table says 550 W. This review follows the primary Festool documents and retains that discrepancy rather than averaging or silently repeating the retailer value. Ask the seller to verify the exact nameplate if the wattage matters to your purchase.

The 2021–2023 U.S. Festool materials identify the corded EBQ, while the checked 2026 catalog segment covers current cordless 420 versions and related products. “Earlier reference” is a scope label for this assessment; it is not an official discontinuation notice and says nothing about availability or the condition of a particular offer. Check item 576192, case and accessories, the nameplate, seller's written contents and return terms. No live price, stock, hands-on test or ownership claim is made.
