Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the PSBC support a top-handle cordless softwood-orbital requirement?
Yes. The manual identifies PSBC 420 EB as the D-handle configuration and recommends orbital positions 1–3 for softwood. Its 1,000–3,800 strokes-per-minute range is lower at the starting end than the PSC barrel-grip model; Basic 576531 does not include a battery or charger.
Explore this need in the finder →Can this saw cut ceramic plate and still be set to straight action?
The manual lists ceramic plate use with an appropriate special blade and specifies pendulum setting 0 for ceramic. Do not infer a ceramic depth rating from the separate 120 mm wood, 20 mm aluminum or 10 mm steel capacities.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I connect a vacuum and keep bevel capability?
No: the manual says extraction is not possible when sawing with the WT-PS 420 angle base. The vacuum plan therefore has beveling disabled; install the optional angle base only after removing the extraction setup, and verify the separate adapter and hose.
Explore this need in the finder →This is a source-based assessment of the U.S.-listed CARVEX PSBC 420 EB, not a hands-on test. Its D-handle has a variable-speed trigger and safety lock in addition to the speed wheel; Festool's PSC 420 EB barrel-grip model lacks that extra trigger and starts at a higher minimum speed.
PSBC 420 EB is the D-handle member of the cordless CARVEX pair
Festool's U.S. Basic item 576531 is named PSBC 420 EB-Basic. The 2024 family manual separately identifies the PSBC as the D-handle configuration and the PSC as a barrel grip. Both have on/off switches on either side and a stroke-rate adjusting wheel, but the PSBC alone adds a variable-speed trigger with a safety lock; the manual says to use the on/off switch for continuous operation. The trigger gives a different way to start and control a cut, but the source does not claim it will feel better for every user.
The PSBC's published range is 1,000–3,800 strokes per minute, versus 1,500–3,800 for the PSC. Both share a 26 mm stroke and four pendulum positions, with position 0 turning orbital motion off and 1–3 adding it. The exact Basic page labels the speed as RPM; the family manual calls it strokes per minute, which is the more useful unit for comparing jigsaw action. Festool lists 3.97 lb for the PSBC Basic page, while the manual lists 4.0 lb without a battery pack. These are manufacturer specifications, not a measured comparison.
Match the blade, mode and stock
The manual explicitly says to use T-shank blades only. This is a hard interface boundary: a U-shank selection does not match the documented clamp, and a blade that fits still has to suit the stock. Festool identifies wood and wood-like materials as the ordinary use and lists plastic, steel, unhardened ferrous metals, non-ferrous metal and ceramic plates when the corresponding special blade is used. Blade-dependent maximum depths are 120 mm in wood, 20 mm in aluminum and 10 mm in steel. Those figures are not evidence of a tested finish or cast-iron capability.
Use the manual's separate pendulum guidance instead of carrying one setting across materials: it recommends positions 1–3 for softwood, 1–2 for plastic, 0–1 for hardwood and steel, 0–2 for aluminum/non-ferrous metals, and 0 for ceramic. Softwood orbital work is therefore a supported match; ceramic is a straight-action plan. Position 0 is not “no jigsaw action”—the blade still reciprocates, but without the forward orbital stroke. Festool's “A” wheel position reduces idle speed and raises it when the blade enters the work, according to the manual. That is an operating instruction, not a controlled cut test.
Check the Basic and Plus package suffixes
Basic 576531 lists the saw, a saw blade, splinterguard and SYS3 M 187 Systainer; Festool says the Basic version does not include batteries or charger. The 2026 English U.S./Canada catalog page for the same SKU lists two T-shank wood blades and a chip-catcher package column, while the current live product-page summary does not specify the blade count or list a chip catcher. Those primary descriptions do not line up item by item, so verify the seller's exact package rather than assuming the most generous interpretation.
The current PSBC 420 HPC 4,0 EBI-Plus package is separate SKU 576535. Its U.S. product page lists two BP 18 Li 4.0 Ah HPC-ASI battery packs, TCL 6 rapid charger, saw blade, splinterguard and the same SYS3 M 187. That is a kit-content difference, not a second PSBC mechanism. The 2024 operating manual's safety label says to use Festool BP 18 batteries. Because this site's battery-platform menu does not offer Festool, a cordless match must not be mistaken for proof that a battery already on hand is compatible.
Extraction is useful, but it rules out the angle table
The manual describes a separate adapter connecting the jigsaw's saw table to a 27 mm extractor hose and recommends an extractor appropriate to the material. The Basic page does not list an extraction adapter, hose or extractor in its set contents. There is no supported built-in-blower claim in the exact-page or manual evidence reviewed here. Confirm the adapter and dust system as separate requirements.
For bevel cuts, Festool's current WT-PS 420 angle base page says it is for CARVEX jigsaws and adjusts from +45 to −45 degrees. The cordless manual describes that angle-table setup and states that dust extraction cannot be used with it. The PSBC can therefore be matched to a vacuum plan or to a bevel plan, but not to both installed in the same operating setup. Remove the extractor and adapter before fitting the angle table; if dust capture is essential, use the standard saw table and do not count the bevel requirement.
Where the PSBC fits
The PSBC is worth comparing when a top/D-handle format and lower starting SPM are important, especially if you want the additional trigger-and-lock controls. Choose the PSC instead when its barrel grip and simpler switch layout are the better fit. Their shared 120 mm wood, 20 mm aluminum and 10 mm steel figures do not erase the control distinction, and their current Basic packages do not provide a battery or charger.
Confirm the exact 576531 Basic or 576535 Plus suffix, battery and charger contents, T-shank blades, extraction adapter and angle-table arrangement before ordering. This review is based on current U.S. manufacturer pages, the family manual and the bounded 2026 catalog pages; it reports no purchase price, stock status, hands-on ownership, measured performance, battery runtime or customer experience.
