SKIL PWR CORE 12 Brushless Compact Jigsaw Kit (JS5833A-10) review

A current 12V brushless compact top-handle kit with T- and U-shank support, four orbital positions and an included 2.0Ah PWR CORE 12 battery and charger; the shared JS5833A-00 manual describes the tool body.

A useful fit for

A compact-kit fit for a buyer already using SKIL PWR CORE 12, or who wants the 12V kit’s included 2.0Ah battery and charger and needs a manual-documented T- or U-shank clamp.

The main tradeoff

The listed speed ceiling conflicts with the shared manual’s Auto-mode maximum; the kit selector is easy to confuse with the bare JS5833A-00 and USB-C JS5833A-11 packages, and no vacuum interface or hardwood-specific orbital plan is established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does JS5833A-10 mean the same package as JS5833A-00?

No. SKIL’s selector labels -10 as the battery-and-charger kit and -00 as “Jigsaw Only”; -11 is the separate USB-C battery-and-charger kit. Check the exact suffix.

Will the JS5833A-10 take U-shank blades?

The shared JS5833A-00 manual and exact page specification say T- and U-shank blades fit, but SKIL does not state which shanks the wood and metal blades included in this kit use.

How fast is the JS5833A-10?

The product page lists 800–3,000 SPM, while the shared manual describes an Auto mode that starts at 1,400 SPM and can ramp to 3,400 SPM under load. These source statements remain unresolved, not a tested result.

SKIL’s JS5833A-10 is the 12V PWR CORE 12 brushless jigsaw kit. The manufacturer’s page is a package selector: it identifies -10 as “Jigsaw w/ Battery & Charger,” -00 as “Jigsaw Only,” and -11 as the separate USB-C battery-and-charger kit. The -10 kit title names a 2.0Ah battery and PWR JUMP charger; SKIL lists a wood blade and a metal blade. The linked manual identifies the shared tool body as JS5833A-00. This assessment is for the -10 kit, not the bare tool or -11 bundle. I have not used or tested it.

Verify the suffix before comparing packages

The product page’s default server-rendered selection displays JS5833A-00, even though the page URL and title identify the JS5833A-10 kit. The manufacturer’s variant record distinguishes the three SKUs and gives the -10 option its own image. A screenshot of the default variant is therefore not enough to establish what a seller’s carton includes. Before buying, check the exact suffix and whether the battery is the standard 2.0Ah kit pack or the -11 USB-C package. The sources do not name the exact battery or charger model numbers for the -10 kit, so I do not assign them here.

SKIL calls this a compact 12V brushless saw. The exact page lists a seven-eighths-inch stroke, a 7.05-inch tool height, 8.4-inch length and 2.7-inch width, plus T- and U-shank compatibility and bevel positions at 0, 15, 30 and 45 degrees. The product page’s listed tool weight is 3.0 pounds; that is a manufacturer listing, not a package or measured in-use weight. The manufacturer’s current US jigsaw collection includes the -10 SKU, but a listing is not evidence of retailer stock.

Resolve the published speed difference carefully

The page lists 800–3,000 SPM, but the shared JS5833A-00 manual describes a five-position speed dial that includes an Auto mode. In Auto, the manual says the saw starts at 1,400 SPM and can rise to 3,400 SPM under load, depending on the material and its thickness. Those statements do not present one identical maximum. Rather than treating the larger number as a measured result or silently discarding the page value, this review preserves the discrepancy and avoids a single settled maximum. For practical setup, the manual recommends choosing a speed on scrap and using slower settings for harder, denser material.

Use the four orbital positions as material guidance

The manual defines position 0 as no orbit, followed by low, medium and maximum orbital movement. It recommends position 1 for hard material such as steel, position 3 for soft materials or cutting with the grain, and zero for thin sheet metal or splinter-sensitive work. SKIL’s manual also lists capacities of 90 mm in wood, 20 mm in aluminum and 10 mm in metal. These are published limits, not test cuts, and the generic wood capacity does not establish separate hardwood and softwood performance. The steel example is not a cast-iron recommendation. For metal, choose an appropriate blade and secure the stock; do not force the blade because the tool is compact.

The product literature supports wood and metal work, not a claim that every plastic or hard wood is suitable. Although the manual discusses different orbital settings, a mode selector alone is not material approval. Match blade type, speed, material thickness, support and finish needs. The manual advises test cuts in scrap rather than promising an edge result.

Blade clamp, dust and bevel setup

The shared manual accepts most commonly available T- and U-shank blades. The kit’s wood and metal blades are named by purpose, not by shank, so buyers should verify their labels and the actual blade length. The manual requires the blade back to sit in the roller guide. The saw also has a dust-blowing function that clears the cutline; the listed package and reviewed documents do not establish an external-vacuum adapter or compatible hose.

The manual’s shoe detents allow bevel settings at 0, 15, 30 and 45 degrees in either direction. SKIL advises removing the battery before adjustment and checking the resulting angle with a sample cut. The bevel feature is independent of the package’s charging choice; it does not make the -10 standard kit interchangeable with the -11 USB-C kit.

Who should consider the JS5833A-10?

This kit is worth comparing if you want the SKIL PWR CORE 12 platform, brushless construction, a compact documented tool envelope and the option to use common T- or U-shank blades. The lower voltage name is not a battery cross-compatibility promise: SKIL PWR CORE 12 and PWR CORE 20 are distinct platforms. If you already own PWR CORE 20 batteries, compare another model rather than assuming they fit.

It is a weaker match if you need a settled single maximum speed from the reviewed sources, a confirmed vacuum connection, a specifically documented hardwood cut plan, or exact accessory model numbers without checking the carton. Compare the JS5833A-00 and -11 package names before purchase; their tool body is related, but the kit contents are not identical. The review uses only manufacturer statements and does not claim hands-on results.

Three suffixes, one documented saw body

SKIL’s current US selector separates JS5833A-00 (“Jigsaw Only”), JS5833A-10 (“Jigsaw w/ Battery & Charger”), and JS5833A-11 (“Jigsaw w/ USB-C Battery & Charger”). The shared JS5833A-00 manual and parts listing bridge these package suffixes to the same compact 12V saw body; the suffix changes what is sold with it, not the documented cutting modes. This review and the finder result represent the -10 PWR CORE 12 kit, not three separate machine assessments.

Exact -00 variant image: the tool is shown without a fitted battery. The selector identifies it as “Jigsaw Only,” but the page does not itemize whether smaller accessories such as blades are in that package.
Official SKIL JS5833A-11 variant image showing the compact jigsaw with a PWR CORE 12 USB-C battery, charging accessories, and two blades.
Exact -11 variant image: the selector calls this a USB-C battery-and-charger package. The image shows a battery, charging pieces, and blades, but neither the image nor the selector identifies accessory model numbers or a complete carton list.

Do not transfer the -10 list of a 2.0Ah battery, PWRASSIST mobile charger, and PWRJUMP charger onto the -11 package: its USB-C charging arrangement is separately named, and SKIL does not itemize its accessory models here. For -00, the “Jigsaw Only” label and bare-tool photo establish that it is not the -10 ready-to-charge kit; the exact page still does not enumerate every small accessory. Check the full SKU and package contents before ordering. The bounded recall query saved for -10 is not recall clearance for the -00 or -11 suffixes.
